Whether it’s just earning a few extra dollars a month, or make enough money to acquire a full-time income from blogging, there are tens of thousands of people who make money by blogging.
The other day, I was on Facebook and was surprised when a certain lady was asking what blog was. I was compelled to answer her and quite surprise that there are still a few people who have no idea what blogging is. To her surprise, she was shocked to find out that those articles or posts online that she’d read are called blogs.
What made her more surprise was when she learned that one actually makes a living through blogging.
So in this post, I will discuss how you can make money through blogging and how blogging has become a profitable business to a lot of people.
First off… Let me tell you what a blog is.
A blog (short for weblog), according to Wikipedia, is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries. Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page.
It is a platform where a writer/ blogger share their views on an individual subject. For some, blogging is a pastime. They would express their thoughts through writing. They share with other people part of their lives through the internet. Some shares their interests, their favorite books, their recent travels, love for food, etc.
What a better way to make money by doing something for a hobby right?
The Evolution Of Blogging
Back then, a blog was more of a personal diary that people shared online, and it goes back to 1994. In this online journal, one talks about their daily life or share the things they do. As it becomes a trend, people saw an opportunity to communicate any information differently. So began the world of blogging which was taken in a new dimension.
It’s amazingly was taken in a dimension where it can be monetized. But in order for it to be a money-making business, it has to be done the right way and with the right intentions.
Can You Make Money Through Blogging
The answer is yes, it can be a means of livelihood but just like what I have mentioned above, in order for blogging to be monetized, it has to be done right and with a good intention of helping people. If you are only in it for the money then it’s not going to work.
Nowadays, people don’t have so much time to just sit around and read stories on websites that are not going to help answer their questions.
Because of a multitude of information on the web, people scan blogs after blogs. When they find the one that’s relevant to them and has good valuable content, they’d stay on that site. Then they would keep coming back as they learned to trust your site. You were able to build a relationship with your audience through your content.
By creating consistent high-quality content that’s packed with information that your targeted audience is looking for, you were building the authority over your niche. What is a niche, you may ask…
A niche allows you to define who you are marketing to. When you know this, it’s easy to determine where your marketing energy and your content should be pointed to. It is basically a narrowed topic or interest that you would focus on your subject whenever you create content.
For instance, some people have a website for cats, dogs or skin problems, etc. It should be something that you know you won’t get tired writing about and where you can establish your authority over as that is very important in driving traffic to your site.
Traffic is what’s going to make your website successful. People need to be able to see what you have on your site which in turn will be converted into a viewer that actually will buy from you through your site and the process continuous and the result multiplies.
Delving Deeper Into Blogging
So, I’ve discussed to you what blog actually is and how important high-quality content is.
Now, let us talk about the importance of a niche into blogging.
In reality, we, as individuals have unique taste and interests. Although there are a lot of people that have the same interests, we all were created uniquely.
Like my husband is a basketball fanatic and I am not. Or I love writing and reading and he does not.
So, a niche is where that falls into. My husband, if he were to read a blog, it would have to be about basketball…anything about basketball. Techniques in shooting, strategies that a basketball player can apply, etc., those are topics of his interests.
On the other hand, my kind of blog would be nothing about basketball of course, but it would be about finance or travel and home design.
So, a niche is a narrowed topic which is meant to target specific audiences that has the same interest than you and has questions and in need of ideas in the same subject matter. By defining who your target audience is it will be easier to think of a market strategy.
It is of greater importance in having a well-defined niche market when planning your internet marketing strategy to achieve marketing success online. It will be easier as you will have a narrowed product to choose from. You can offer a product or service review that they’re demanding and get them to come to you, in order to reach a level of financial success via the internet.
One good example of this is Pinterest. In Pinterest, there are different categories or ideas that are very useful. I get ideas there on how to decorate my house, on how to do a certain craft, cook a certain recipe, etc. People will follow you depending on your niche or your interests.
You create different boards with different images but once you click on that image it will lead you through a website where the owner of the board got the image from. The viewer will scan through your boards and the content of those websites that you led them to and once they realize that you have good values on your pins and your boards, she’ll end up following you.
That’s why Pinterest is one good social media site to market your website then you get to have followers that are targeted and will really stick to you because you have the same niche.
The great thing about Pinterest is people will pin your pins and will follow your boards which will be pinned and followed by others and the cycle continues and by the time you know it, you already have spread the word about your website thus your traffic builds up.
You Need Traffic
The more frequent, consistent and better your blog posts are, the higher the chances for your website to get discovered and visited by your target audience. Which means, a blog is an effective lead generation tool. Add a great call to action (CTA), and it will convert your website traffic into high-quality leads.
The blog also allows you to showcase your authority and build a brand.
When you use your niche knowledge for creating informative and engaging blog posts, it builds trust with your audience.
High-quality blog posts make your business looks more credible, which is especially important if your brand is still young and fairly unknown. It ensures presence and authority at the same time.
